Bruxism is a condition in which you start grinding, grinding and sprinkling your teeth. A person with a braxism can grinding  teeth during sleep. Sleep bruxism is related to the disorder related sleep movement. 
However, light bruxism may not be needed for treatment. But if bruxism is persistent and serious, it can cause other problems like jaw, headache, damaged teeth and persistent headache. Those who have braxism can not be aware until they develop complexities. Therefore it is important to know about the signs and symptoms of bruxism for proper dental care.

Signs and symptoms of bruxism


  • ~ Teeth grinding or clenching
  • ~ Flattened, fracture, sticking or loose teeth
  • ~ Worn tooth enamel, exposing deeper layers of your tooth
  • ~ Increased tooth sensitivity
  • ~ soreness, jaw and face pain
  • ~ Tight and tired jaw muscles 
  • ~ Earache
  • ~ Headache 
  • ~ Indentations on your tongue

Cause of bruxism

The exact reasons for bruxism are not known. But some potential physical or psychological factors may include:


  • ~ Anxiety, stress, anger, frustration or tension
  • ~ Aggressive, competitive or hyperactive personality type
  • ~ Abnormal alignment of upper and lower teeth
  • ~ Sleep apnea
  • ~ Stomach acid reflux into the esophagus
  • ~ An abnormal side effect of some psychological drugs, such as phenothiazine or some antidepressants
  • ~ Huntington's disease or complications due to Parkinson's disease disease disorder



Treatment

The purpose of treatment is to reduce the pain, to prevent permanent damage to teeth and to reduce the grinding teeth as much as possible. Teeth guard are given to patient, which they can use to avoid any further damage before sleeping.

Some tips to help you stop teeth grinding:

  • ~ Avoid foods and drinks with high caffeine content
  • ~ Reduce your alcohol intake
  • ~ Avoid chewing gums as it allows more use to change jaw muscles and jaw pain will also trigger
  • ~ Focus on your jaw movement during the day. Do not try to splash or grind your teeth and relax your jaw muscles as much as possible
  • ~ Relieve your jaw muscles by putting warm wet cloth on your cheek before sleeping




Grinding of teeth in children

Teeth grinding is not limited to adults, children are more likely to suffer from bruxism. The children grind their teeth during sleep.


Tips to prevent your child from grinding teeth:

  • ~ Encourage your child to play as much physical activity as possible.
  • ~ Make sure your child drinks plenty of water
  • ~ Especially reduce your child's stress before sleeping
  • ~ Take your child to the dentist as soon as possible

Prognosis

Bruxism is not a dangerous disorder. But this can cause permanent damage to the pain and headaches of the teeth and inconvenient jaw.
